PVB Laminated Safety Glass

Laminated glass is manufactured by permanently bonding one or more polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer between sheets of clear, coated or tinted glass under heat and pressure. Laminated glass can incorporate various combinations of clear and tinted glass, transparent or coloured interlayers, as well as a range of high performance coatings.

Laminated safety glass is available in 3 strength variations:

• Normal Strength (NS) for human impact safety (0.38mm PVB interlayer)
• High Penetration Resistant (HPR) for additional security (2 x 0.38mm layers = 0.76mm PVB interlayer
• High Impact (HI) for security in high-risk applications (4 x 0.38 layers – 1.52 mm PVB interlayer)

Laminated safety glass is tested by repeatedly dropping a 225g steel ball from a height of nine meters. The impact of each drop is approximately equivalent to the blow from a hammer. The table shows the number of blows required to penetrate the glass.

NB: The size of the hole at penetration point is approximately 50mm in diameter.
